Hello everyone, “Sabor aplenty” Salsa lessons on Sundays will continue starting this February after our little winter break!  Classes are in English and Konglish, and cover all you need to know to move and groove on the dance floor! Come check us out @ America Latina every Sunday.  Just scroll down for all the info & FAQ:

Intermediate Salsa Class: 7:00-8:00pm
Beginner Salsa Class: 8:00-9:00pm
Practice Session: 9:00-10:00pm
Lesson cost: 10,000 Won
Where: America Latina in Itaewon

Beginner’s:
The beginner’s class covers the salsa fundamentals, it’s the most important class anyone can take.  The first 15 minutes we’ll be going over the basic step essentials followed by one of the 8 foundation moves.  This week,  Sunday March 18th, we'll be going over the "Spot Turn" AKA "360". The moves are not cumulative, so if you miss 1 class you’ll be fine in the next one. If you have 2 left feet, don't worry, we did too!^.~

Intermediate:
The intermediate class is for students who are comfortable with the basic steps, right turns, and inside/outside cross-body lead turns. For each class we'll review last week’s turn pattern before teaching the new pattern. Intermediate students may stay for the beginners lesson for free to tighten up their fundamentals if need be.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1) What is this Salsa stuff?  Isn’t Salsa a sauce???

Yes it’s a sauce, and just like Salsa sauce is a mix of different vegetables, Salsa music/dance is a mix of different music/dance genres (hence the name “Salsa”).  Originating in Cuba & Puerto Rico, it developed in New York City in the 60s & 70s & spread to many different cities internationally.  Nowadays, you can find Salsa clubs in every major city and partake in the local Salsa scene. Quite simply, it’s a sexy, fun, social, and physically active dance done in every major international city.

2.) I’m not very good at this dancing stuff, can I still come to your class?

Yes of course, that’s why you’re taking the class!^.~ If you’re ever confused during the lesson you can stop and ask for help anytime. We’ll break everything down as simple as possible & we’re very approachable.

3.) Ok, now I don’t have a partner, is that a problem?

No not at all. We’ll partner you up and we have frequent partner changes so you’ll be dancing with new people regularly.

4.) How long will it take me to learn this salsa stuff?

There’s no exact answer to this question. In general, it takes 2-3 months for women to learn to follow decently (assuming 1 class a week and going out social dancing once a week), and even more time for men to learn to lead. It’s a matter of consistency and frequency.  Like any new activity involving muscle memory, the more you practice, the faster you’ll develop. Women learn faster than men because they only follow, but when men learn to lead there’s a lot more demand for them.;) In my experience, if you have a background in other dances or are naturally talented in body movement/sports, you’ll learn much faster.  At first it’ll be completely alien to you, but later you’ll see how most of the moves are variations of a handful of foundation steps.
